Tip! You quadruple the sales value of grass and corn, just by turning it into silage. You can sell silage at the biogas plant and at the animal dealer – you will receive much more money for it than selling your regular harvest. You can learn more on how to produce cow feed from silage and the other components in our tutorial on cows. Silage is part of the total mixed ration that you use to feed the cows. It cannot directly be grown on fields, but can be made with grass or chaff. Silage is a valuable feed that is preserved by fermentation. Let's go! What Is Silage & What Is It Needed For? We will show you how to produce silage, what ingredients and equipment you also need.

One has a sun above it, one doesn't.Welcome to your next lesson in the Farming Simulator Academy basics! Today we focus on silage. They are little clouds with a grass-like symbol in it. Any advise on those? Is hay dried grass?įinally, I think this does explain something I'd missed-there are two icons I can't find info on. I didn't realize those were two different things. Or you can get slurry from cows/pigs (though, I don't think I'm ready to deal with animals yet.I can barely get this part figured out yet).įinally, during the "cow" tutorial, there was straw, and there was hay. Right? (I feel like I'm missing something).

Its a bit confusing.Ĭhaff is necessary to make silage, correct? You take chaff to the biogas place, run it over a few dozen times, and boom! Silage. How do you make chaff? The help says something about corn (I have not yet planted corn), but also says other crops can be used as well. I completed all the tutorials today (hadn't done animals or logging yet), and I am still confused about something. I'm very thankful for all the help I've received over the last few days.
